Kantha Cloth from Free Spirit Fabrics

Kantha Cloth refers to patched cloth that has been stitched to another layer of fabric without batting. It is typically made with cotton or silk that has been patched together.

Our Kantha Cloth uses cotton block prints from Valerie Wells for Free Sprit Fabrics.

The Little Somethin’ Jacket is perfect for Kanth Cloth if you want a lightweight fun garment to wear.

Kantha Cloth comes in a bundle that is approximately 105″ x 44″. Both layers of fabric have been turned under and hand stitched along the selvedge edges. The long stitches holding the two fabrics together are done by hand with a thick perle cotton thread.

Our suggestion for a simple jacket is the Little Somethin’ Jacket from CNT Pattern company.

Our bundle contains instructions for a simple throw, drawstring bag, wrap around pillow cover and zippered pouch.

You can make a variety of these items with your bundle. Be sure and prewash the fabric. Expect shrinkage of 2 – 3 inches.

Our bundle includes instructions for making super simple zippered pouches. They can be any size depending on the fabric you have left in your bundle.

We like to use the zippers from ByAnnie. They have a wide tape and large pulls that make them easy to stitch and easy to open. You will need small lengths for these bags. The most economical way to purchase zippers for this project is bagged by the yard. Each bag has 4 yards of zipper tape and 16 pulls. You will put the pulls on one end and cut the zipper length off the opposite end. Here are some great choices to use with the Kantha Cloth.
