Let’s Sew Something

Time for a little break from quilts and runners. Let’s do a little simple sewing. It’s fun to have something new to wear that “I MADE MYSELF”. We don’t do complicated or fitted patterns, just comfort and great fabrics.

The Farrow Dress is from Grainline Gear. It’s a simple pullover dress with front pockets. For best results, use a lightweight fabric that has great drape. This is becoming one of our favorite patterns for Fall with the option of a longer sleeve.

Great in Rayon!
Wonderful knit !

Take a look at some of the possibilities to make this garment. This pattern is considered advanced beginner, so bet we could all make this one! The Farrow Dress comes in sizes 0 – 18. If you select a 42″ rayon, you will need 3 1/2yds thru size 10 and 4 yds for sizes 12-18. If you use a 54″ knit or silky noil, you will need 3 1/4yds for sizes 0 – 8, 3 1/2yds for sizes 10-14 and 3 3/4yds for sizes 16 – 18.

We always wash our garment fabrics before we sew them. We put them in a warm washer and warm dryer with a bounce sheet and remove them just before they are toasty dry.

These pieces are 42″ wide rayons:

Love to work with knits. These are great choices as they don’t roll and don’t have too much stretch. These fabrics are 54″ wide.

If solids are more your thing, you will love working with our Silky Noil. It’s a 54″ Linen/Rayon combination. It goes thru the washer and dryer like a dream and has a great drape for this pattern. Check out our colors.

Random Thoughts Quilt Kit

If you are not quite sure what to do with the graphic prints from Marcia Derse’s newest collection, Random Thoughts, we have just the thing.

Give our newest quilt kit a try and you will have a great time combining all these colors surrounded by her neutrals. The quilt is approximately 60″ x 80″, so it’s a generous throw size.

Be sure you check out what we put on the back….it’s the focus print. It makes a wonderful back to blend with all the graphic prints on the front.

We offer just the pattern if you want to try different fabrics in this easy quilt. Maybe you already have a collection of Marcia Derse fabrics and just need some inspiration.

If you have other plans for this collection, take a look at what we have. Several of the prints are already on re-order, but we will hopefully have them back again soon.

Christmas Quilt & Table Runner

We have made very few Christmas quilts in the shop as they often seem too much work for a short season. When we discovered the Pinata quilt pattern, things changed.

You can have this one finished and ready long before the Holidays get here. Our kit uses traditional Christmas prints with Moda’s primitive muslin as the background. There is just one block to make in this quilt!

If you have your own collection of Christmas prints and wondered what to do, then the pattern might be all you need. We did make our quilt larger than the pattern. It was to be a 50″ x 60″ quilt, but we have enough fabric in our kit to make the quilt 60″ x 70″ which seems to be a better size.

If a smaller project is in your plans, you might want to try the table runner shown above with the Pinata Quilt. The piecing is easy and it’s a great runner to showcase a focus fabric. The pattern, Waffle Time, has been around for years. Never seems to go out of style with all the great fabrics to showcase.

The fabrics we used in our runner are from the Poinsettia Plaza collection from Moda. If you love traditional Christmas with just a touch of the contemporary, you will enjoy this group.

Ready for Fall?

Ready for Fall to us means a new Pieces of Eight flannel quilt. We do one or two each year when we can find some great flannels. Moda has come thru for us this year with their new Fall Melody collection. The fabric arrived just about two weeks ago and we already have our quilt finished. It’s that easy.

We love to use Moda’s Fireside for the backing of these quilts. The fabric is 60″ wide and takes only 2 1/4 yds. Fireside isn’t heavy like Minkee. It’s soft and warm for the back of a flannel quilt.

Want to choose flannels for your own pattern? We have these wonderful fall flannels in stock now.

If you love the precuts, we have the 5″ squares and the 10″ squares showing the entire collection.
