Linen is back for the Summer

The official start of Summer might we a few weeks away, but with the temperatures we have been experiencing it’s time to bring out the linen. We have been a big fan of linen for all of our 45 years in business. We love 100% linen and now that we have linen and rayon combinations we have some fabrics with less wrinkle and more drape.

Printed linen has always been a struggle to find and we had to go all the way to Canada to find a distributor. We are now able to have some of the most beautiful digitally printed linens. These fabrics are machine wash and machine dry on low. They are not a wrinkled mess when they come out of the dryer so the pressing time in minimal.

We use simple patterns to show off the fabric. Take a look at what we have made so far this Spring.

You might already have these patterns. If you decide on a pattern, but don’t already own it. We will be glad to help you figure yardage. Just let us know. Our linen is 54″ wide.

We have lots of other great digital linen choices.

Yukata Quilt Kit

We have just finished one of our favorite quilts. It’s so easy because you are using only pre-cut strips to complete the top. The pattern is Popsicle Sticks from Atkinson Designs.

Use this recipe to make the quilt in your desired size. You will need 4 things: the pattern, the strips, binding and backing. How many strip packs you need and how much binding and backing will depend on the size

The recipe is as follows: Lap Size: 64″ x 80″ – pattern, 2 strip packs, 5/8 binding, 5yds backing
Twin/Full 80″ x 96″ – pattern, 3 strip packs, 3/4yd binding, 7 1/2yd backing
Queen 96″ x 112″ – pattern, 4 strip packs, 1yd binding and 8 3/4yd binding
King 112″ x 112″ – pattern, 5 strip packs, 1yd binding and 10yds backing

There are some great choices for backing and binding.

Can’t make up your mind. These are the two we used for backing and binding.

Remy Blouse meets Silky Noil

Sounds like a match made in heaven. We love the Remy Blouse pattern. It’s so simple, yet with the perfect fabric it can be quite stunning. (As a side note, we have to thank Caryl Gaubatz as she introduced us to this pattern. We are so grateful.)

We love it made from rayon, but this time we are showing it with our Silky Noil which is the linen/rayon fabric we have been able to bring in from Canada. This fabric is amazing for it’s drapability and easy care.

It just drops over your head!!

Sizes for this pattern range from 00 to 24 and the sleeve length vary from short to 3/4 to long. There is something for us all in this pattern. Since there is such a variety of sizes and sleeve lengths, purchase 2 yds and you can do anything of the versions. We know you will want to make more than one so you can work out your exact yardage requirements. (This fabric is about 54″ wide.)

This top has two front views, one with a single button accent and one that just drops over your head. We have made both and like them equally. Also, there is a variety of sleeve lengths to suit everyone.

We used our Silky Noil, linen and rayon combination to make this top.
