Introducing the
See It and Save It Bag! |
| This fun little decorative bag has been a real hit in the store, so we thought you might like to have one too! | |
| Supplies: | |
| 1/2 yd. Outer Fabric 1/2 yd. Contrast for Lining 1 1/2 yd. Cording - Rattail, twine or ribbon Lightweight plastic - 5" x 7" OR Fiberglass Screening - 7" x 7" |
If you choose to do an embroidery design on the screening, hoop the screening between two layers of Super Solvy. Use a 90 embroidery needle. Cut 2 strips parallel to the selvage 12" wide. Trim length of strips to 14". Sew strips together with 1/4" seam along the 12" side. This will be the bottom of the bag. Press seam open. Repeat for lining. Put bag and lining right sides together, matching bottom seams. |
Draw a 4" x 6" rectangle, beginning 2" above bottom seam and 3" in from each side.

Turn lining through rectangle. Press seams. Put plastic on lining side so it is behind the window opening. Using a longer stitch length, edgestitch close to rectangle. Stitch again 1/4" away from first stitching. Trim away excess plastic. Fold outer bag right sides together. Stitch side seams with 1/4" seam keeping lining out of the way. Press seam. BE CAREFUL THAT YOU DO NOT TOUCH THE PLASTIC WITH THE IRON! Sew side seams in lining with 1/4" seam, keeping outer bag out of the way. Press seam, being careful not to touch the plastic with the iron. Turn outer bag right sides out which will force the lining inside the bag. On each side of front bag, measure down 3" from top raw edge and put a 1/2" buttonhole close to the side seams. Keep lining out of the way. Buttonholes are only in the outer fabric. Put a stabilizer under the buttonhole since it is a single layer of fabric. Topstitch through both outer fabric and lining around the entire bag above and below buttonholes to form a casing. Trim about 3/8" off raw edge of lining fabric at top of bag. Press the outer fabric over the lining fabric 3/8". Press it over again 3/8". Topstitch close to fold. Cut cording in half and pull through a buttonhole and bring it back out the same buttonhole. Repeat with other half of cording through other buttonhole. Tie end of cording together to form a loop. |
Fill bag with anything you desire. Be creative! Fill a playful bag made of bright, cheerful children's fabric with little toys to occupy your favorite youngster. Make it with a flowery fabric fill with soaps or perfumes and give to a young lady. Or make it of terry cloth and fill it with toiletries! Have fun! |
